The Rising Decline Project on Bill Selak Talks: Part 28 of 30

You’ve listened to the episode, now listen to the song, and sing along. Free for a limited time. And by limited, I mean forever.
Note: this is the 14th track of the 15-track album, and episode 28 of the 30 episode podcast series.

Half Mast

Tell me what it’s like to lose a good friend
Cuz this is my first one.
Is there a cure? Is there something I can do
To relieve my confusion?
As you stepped out of the back door of this world that moves too fast,
Your family that you loved and the friends that you made had their hearts lowered to half mast.

It’s taken me some time to realize.
Although it hurts I won’t see you again.
It’s only memories that I have of the times when we were friends.

Thinking back in time about the days
in the summers when I’d live without a care.
We’d sit at your house and play guitar outside in the ocean air.

Don’t know what it’s like to feel the cold chill
Of a fear that outdoes all.
Would I see my life as it flashed before my eyes
Or would time slow down or stall?

I’m not sure about the details of the crash that fateful day
Driving down a road so familiar,
but this time, it took your life away.

I’m looking for a slight confirmation,
Or anything to give me peace of mind
That the terms we parted on were good
In the life that you left behind.

Telling me to get an EMT.
Yeah, teaching me and never getting mad.
You were a modern day hero
Who gave all that he had.

Now with summer coming up I can see a new dawn
And the healing wave of time is on the way.
Your family and your friends are moving on
To regain their strength and to live for another day.
