Week 2: Embed

Visit the html topics page for how to link images and pages. The html page also has markup for you to copy.

Creative Commons

Taken from creativecommons.org:

We provide free licenses and other legal tools to mark creative work with the freedom the creator wants it to carry, so others can share, remix, use commercially, or any combination thereof.

Flickr has an advanced search that can search only creative commons licensed photos. This means that you are allowed to download any photo from that search (as long as you abide by the license). Very cool stuff.

Embedding flash media

Easily add games, videos, and presentations to your web site. Look for embed on web sites. Copy the ready-made markup, and paste it into your web page.

WordPress CMS

WordPress isn’t simply an easy blog web site. It is a complete content management system (CMS). Get acquainted with WordPress:

Permalinks

A permalink is a permanent url to blog posts and WordPress pages. WP allows you to choose the style of permalink at Settings > Permalinks. I highly recommend changing from the default to numeric. The most obvious change is how the url of pages are displayed. For example, the permalink for 525 page about html is http://www.billselak.com/educ525/topics/html instead of something link http://www.billselak.com/educ525/?p=174.
